First St Stephen's Day 5K charity run has the town buzzing

Dreading the thoughts of post-Christmas cabin fever? Why not get out of the house on St Stephen's Day and join in the fun of Cavan's first festive 5K run? The run will begin at the Imperial on Cavan's Main Street at midday on December 26, finishing at the same location at a time that's entirely up to you. Organisers believe the event, which is in aid of the Cavan Alzheimer Society Day Centre, will be the first St Stephen's Day charity run in Cavan. Liam Mimnagh from Moynehall, who is co-organiser with Barry McDonald, Gortnakesh, originally planned an event earlier in the year but decided that the ubiquitous claustrophobic feeling of sitting around nibbling chocolates and turkey while watching drivel on telly could be an opportunity. "I was trying to organise a race in the summer but it didn't happen. When I heard the weather was looking a lot milder this year I just took the gamble and thought maybe we can get away with a race on St Stephen's Day," said Liam, who strongly endorses the deserving beneficiary.
