Gardaí are also on the scene, and are working to divert motorists away from the area.

The incident was first reported shortly after 12 noon, and the extent of the damage is not yet known.

A post by An Garda Siochana states: 'There is currently a fire in an industrial unit in the area of the Shercock Road roundabout in Carrickmacross.'

They add: 'The Gardai in Carrickmacross respectfully request that the area should be avoided at present and that people living locally should make sure to close all windows and doors. The emergency services are currently at the scene dealing with the incident.'
