It is with regret that we note the death of the following people from Counties Cavan and Monaghan, as reported on RIP.ie in the past 24 hours. May they rest in peace.

Dr. James McCabe

Tormór, Glencar, Sligo / Ballinagh, Cavan

Formerly of Carrigan, Co. Cavan, Paris, France and Washington DC. All Ireland Medalist 1952, Cavan. He died peacefully, held by his family. Beloved husband of Kay, loving father of Evelyn, Shane, Niamh, Culann and Aengus, proud grandfather of Eamonn, Darach, Ciara (deceased), Aifric, Aedamar, Doireann, Comhall, Finn, Rossa, Domhnall, great-grandfather of Eva, June and Fionn, dearly loved by his sisters Mary Ann and Eileen, daughters in law, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Removal on Tuesday the 11th from Tormór, Glencar to St. Colmcille's Church, Rathcormack, Co. Sligo for funeral Mass at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in Drumcliffe graveyard. Due to the current H.S.E. and Government covid-19 guidelines, James' house will be private to family only, please. The funeral Mass will be limited to family and close friends. Mary Ellen Cahill , Cornaseer, Carrickaboy, Co Cavan. Pre-deceased by her brother Eddie, Saturday, August 8th, in the wonderful care of the staff at the Breffni Care Centre, Ballyconnell.

Reposing at Lakelands Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Cavan tomorrow, Monday, from 5.30pm until 7pm. Requiem Mass Tuesday morning in St Matthew's Church, Drumavaddy at 11am. Burial afterwards in Old Cemetery.

Due to ongoing Government and HSE guidelines, the funeral is private to family, friends and neighbours. Social distancing must be adhered to at all times.

Patrick (Patsy) Carroll

Eighter, Virginia, Cavan

Patrick (Patsy) Carroll, Eighter, Virginia, Cavan. Peacefully at his home. Predeceased by his sister Rose Masterson (London), his brothers Oliver, Tom, Jim & recently Mark. Mark’s ashes will also be interred alongside Patsy. Sadly missed by his sisters Mary Woodcock (Skerries), Eileen McDermott (Roscommon) & Bridget Daly (Clonkeefy), his brother in law Paddy, nephews, nieces, neighbours, relatives & friends.

Clarke, Mattie V. (Moate, Carlanstown, Kells, Co. Meath and late of Corradua, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan). 9th August 2020, peacefully at Kilmainhamwood Nursing Home, in his 100th year. Deeply regretted by his loving wife Jane, daughters Ann and Teresa, son Jim, son-in-law Leo, grandchildren Peter, Lisa and Ciarán, great-grandaughter Clara, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Reposing at his home on Tuesday, 11th August, from 3 o'clock, with removal on Tuesday evening, leaving his home at 6 o'clock and arriving Kilbeg Church at 6.30 o'clock. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, 12th August, at 11 o'clock followed by burial in Staholmog Cemetery. Due to Government guidelines, restrictions on numbers of people attending will be observed.

Due to current Government & HSE advice the funeral will be private.

Tony Adams

Tony Adams, Garrysallagh, Mountnugent, Co. Cavan (Formerly of The Department of Agriculture) Saturday, August 8th (peacefully) at his home surrounded by his loving family. Tony will be reunited with his recently deceased son Mark and sister Mary (USA). Deeply regretted by his wife Elizabeth, daughters Ruth, Louise and Suzanne, sons Charles and Joseph, brother Paddy, sister Phillipa, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, extended family, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

John O'Rourke

Corrogue, Dowra, Cavan

The death has occurred of John O'Rourke, Corrogue, Dowra, Co. Cavan peacefully at his residence.

Predeceased by his parents and brother Peter, deeply regretted by his brothers Hughie and Pat, sisters in law Kathleen and Marie, nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends.

Remains arriving at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Doobally, Dowra at 8pm on Sunday evening. Funeral mass on Monday at 12 noon with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Due to current government guidelines on Covid 19, house and funeral will be private to family and neighbours. Anyone wishing to sympathise with the family can do so in Doobally Church car park keeping a 2m distance.

The death has occurred of Tony (Anthony) Smith, Troytown Heights, Navan and formerly Tunnyconnolly, Co. Cavan. Suddenly at his residence. Predeceased by his father Francis. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Jaclyn, son Joshua, daughters Sarah and Aishling, mother Rose, brothers Philip, Patrick and Francis, sisters Catherine (Gaynor), Carmel (Hannigan) and Caroline, brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Michael Lupton, Drumard, Dromod, Co. Leitrim, August 8th 2020 (peacefully) after a long illness bravely borne, in the absolute loving care of Costello’s Nursing Home, Ballyleague. Predeceased by his wife Lilly. Loving father of Bridget, Catherine, Michael, Peter, Dominic, Annie and Baz. Sadly missed by his loving family, daughters in law, sons in law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Michael will repose at the home of his daughter Bridget and son in law John, Cloonaugh, Drumlish, Co. Longford (N39 H761) on Monday from 4pm to 8pm. Removal on Tuesday morning (via Drumard) to arrive at St Michael’s Church, Bornacoola, for funeral Mass at11am followed by cremation at Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan at 1pm.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions Michael’s funeral and cremation will be restricted to family and close friends. Safe social distancing must be adhered to at all times. The family wish to thank all for your cooperation at this sad time.

Annie Gleeson (née Gilbert)

Black Island View, Castleblayney, Monaghan

The death has occurred of Annie Gleeson (née Gilbert), Black Island View, Drumillard, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan, Friday 7th August peacefully in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda. Predeceased by her husband Paddy. Deeply regretted and lovingly missed by her daughters Monica, Mary and Valerie, sons John, Pat, Eddie, Seamus and Gerard, grandchildren, great-grandchildren nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In line with guidelines issued by The Government and The HSE, Annie’s wake, funeral and burial will be strictly private.

Jean Patterson (née Wiggins)

Coolkill, Rockcorry, Monaghan

peacefully on Saturday, 8th August 2020, at Cavan General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Pre-deceased by her beloved husband Samuel. Jean will be dearly missed by her sons Sammy & Leslie, daughters-in-law, grandchildren Adam, Sammy, Katie, Rian and Luke, also her friends and all the family circle.

Resting at her home from 8pm tonight until removal on Monday, 10th August, at 1.30pm, for funeral service in Rockcorry Presbyterian Church at 2pm. Interment afterwards in Drumkeen Presbyterian Churchyard.

Patricia Mc Ardle, Rochestown Ave, Dublin, The Square, Blackrock, Co Louth and formerly of Lisagore, Broomfield, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan. Died peacefully on 7th August 2020 in the supportive care of Moorehall Lodge, Drogheda. Patricia, beloved daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget Mc Ardle, dear sister of Bernadette (Bertie) Treacy, and the late Kathleen, Jimmy, Molly (Sr Mary Anne), Betty Ward, Mona (Sr. Monica). Beloved Aunt, wise mentor and dearest friend of Shane Treacy, Marina Ní Threasaigh O Neill, Jimmy Treacy and Mona Metcalfe. She will be sadly missed by all her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives and friends.
