GoFundMe set up to pay Gowna mum's funeral costs

The online appeal, which only went live yesterday, has already raised nearly a tenth of the total €7,000 target sought.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help friends and family pay the funeral costs for the late Natasha Core, the Cavan mum who tragically drowned at a local lake earlier this week.

The online appeal, which only went live yesterday, has already raised nearly a tenth of the total €7,000 target sought.

The funding page was set up by Anne-Marie Fox, a cousin of the late Ms Core (29). The online appeal reads: “Natasha was a young girl aged 29. Natasha has left two young kids behind and anything you can donate will be really appreciated. We are so devastated and heart broken over this tragic lost. Thank you from all the family.”

Known as 'Tasha' to friends, her body was recovered from the shoreline at what is locally known as Swan Lake by members of the Cavan Fire Services and Civil Defence on Wednesday evening last, July 21.

The alarm had been raised shortly before 9.30pm, when gardaí attended the scene. An air support unit attached to the Irish coastguard was dispatched to the area from Dublin to assist in the search.

Gardaí have confirmed the matter is currently being treated as a “swimming accident”.

It was the second drowning in the same day, after the death of a man at Spencer Harbour, Drumkeeran, near the Cavan-Leitrim border.

Michael Hoey, who was in his 70s, and a dad of five from Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, failed to return while snorkelling.

It also follows the drowning of a 15-year-old at Sheelin on Tuesday last, and that of a man at Lough Melvin in Fermanagh. Peter Jones (55) from Garrison lost his life on Wednesday morning.
