Outdoor market to celebrate harvest

Organisers are eager to provide a safe, relaxing and enjoyable environment.

A celebration to showcase the best of what’s in season will be held in Cavan Town this Sunday, September 5.

After the success of their June event, The Cottage Market Cavan brings their second food market of 2021 to The Conaty Centre providing an opportunity to meet local food producers and growers.

The programme includes small and independent food vendors serving an “Al fresco-style brunch” experience, nature inspired workshops for children, and talks on Autumn Gardening with Klaus Laitenberger.

There will also be food demonstrations by The Oak room and local fermenting enthusiast Seamus Lyng will showcase the amazing food available through the food initiative, ‘The Local Green Box Cavan’.

“We have seen a huge growing interest in local food and supporting local over the past 18 months”, says Imelda Mullen, The Cottage Market Cavan coordinator. “On Sunday September 5, we will get the opportunity to meet all our wonderful loyal customers who supported the local food box over that time, and invite others to discover and celebrate what is available on their doorstep”.

Visitors are encouraged to walk or cycle to this event where possible and to bring a picnic blanket and embrace our ‘outdoor summer’ with nature and local food.

All workshops and talks must be pre-booked to adhere to Covid guidelines. To book a talk or workshop, find ‘thelocalgreenboxcavan’ online.

Organisers are eager to provide a safe, relaxing and enjoyable environment.

“This will be a fully outdoor event and all operations will strictly adhere to Covid restrictions” says Imelda Mullen. “The health and welfare of our stallholders and visitors is our priority, and we would ask everyone who takes part or visits on the day to respect Covid guidelines so we can all enjoy a safe community day out celebrating local food.”

The open air food market takes place on Sunday, September 5 from 12-4pm at The Conaty Centre, Cullies, Cavan town (H12 E5C7).
