Mixed weather today with some bright spells

Weather Update

Generally cool and quite unsettled for the weekend and into next week, according to the latest weather bulletin from Met Éireann.

Some bright and dry spells today (Thursday) mainly in the east and south, but it will be mostly cloudy elsewhere, with scattered showers and more persistent rain at times in the west and northwest. In the early evening, rain will turn heavy in Atlantic coastal counties, extending eastwards, with some heavy falls in Connacht and west Ulster. Highest temperatures 13 to 16 degrees with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at times in coastal areas.

Windy tonight with rain clearing eastwards, followed by blustery scattered showers. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderate to fresh and gusty southwesterly winds, veering westerly and increasing strong at times.

Tomorrow (Friday) will bring a mix of sunny spells and showers, heaviest and most frequent over the western and half of the country with isolated thunderstorms possible. There will be good dry spells at times in eastern areas. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in fresh and gusty westerly winds.

Scattered showers will continue in Atlantic counties overnight on Friday, becoming more isolated with good clear spells further east. Towards morning, showers will merge to longer spells of rain. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in mostly moderate southerly winds.

Showers or longer spells of rain are forecast for Saturday, especially in the east of the country later in the day. Largely cloudy but some sunshine will extend from the west during the afternoon. Highest temperatures of just 10 to 13 degrees. Moderate southerly winds veering westerly and freshening later in the day.

Scattered showers along Atlantic coasts on Saturday night with more persistent rain across Ulster, clear spells elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in moderate southwesterly winds.

Sunday will bring good sunny spells coupled with blustery scattered showers and the possibility of an isolated of thunderstorms. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.

Current indications suggest that weather will continue unsettled early next week. Scattered showers and sunny spells are expected on Monday and Tuesday with longer spells of rain later. Highest temperatures generally ranging 11 to 15 degrees with temperatures possibly picking up after Tuesday.
