Incredible stories from weekend's GAA clashes

Heroic return for Shannon Gael's Caoimhan, while Tomas O'Reilly races to welcome arrival of daughter

Aside from the matches themselves, there were several incredible stories that came out of this weekend's round of GAA clashes.

Where Shannon Gaels overcame Mountnugent, there was celebrations beyond the two point win when young county star Caoimhan McGovern made a cameo appearance for his club.

What's incredible about this story is that Caoimhan is overcoming cancer treatment.

Caoimhan’s diagnosis of Stage 2 Lymphoma cancer back in July is compounded by the fact his father Michael Anthony and his grandmother on his dad’s side, Nora, both died from cancer within months of each other in 2018.

However, in a show of solidarity, many of his friends and teammates have taken part in 'Shave or Dye' fundraiser, with close to €40,000 raised to date for Sligo and Cavan Oncology day wards.

The two charities, chosen by Caoimhan’s mother Chrissie, continue to be of great support to the McGovern family.

Caoimhan’s best friend and Shannon Gael's club teammate Declan McLoughlin came up with the idea for the fundraiser.

Congratulations

Elsewhere, in dramatic circumstances, Killeshandra Leaguers' Tomas O'Reilly had more than just helping his club reach the IFC Semi finals on his mind, when he raced from the game to be with his wife in welcoming the birth of his daughter Éabha.
