103 year old Cavan lady receives booster Covid Vaccination

A 103 years young Cavan lady has received her booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccination.

Una McBarron, aged 103 years old from Ballyconnell was the first person in residential services for Older People in Community Healthcare Organisation Area 1 (Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan and Sligo) to be vaccinated against COVID-19 back in January 2021.

On Wednesday October 6 Cavan CVC administered a booster COVID-19 vaccine to Ms McBarron in Breffni Care Centre, Ballyconnell, where she is a resident.

The HSE has begun COVID-19 booster vaccinations for people aged 80 years or older in the community and those 65 years or older living in a long-term residential care facility, following recommendations from NIAC. If you are aged 80 years or older and not living in residential care, you will be invited for your vaccine by your GP. In some cases GPs will refer patients to a HSE vaccination centre for this booster vaccination.

Cara O’Neill, Head of Vaccination, CHO 1 said:

“We have come a long way since Ms McBarron became the first person in residential services for Older Persons across CHO1 to receive her first dose of a Covid 19 vaccine. I’m delighted to see she has now received her booster vaccine nine months later. Ireland’s hugely successful vaccination programme is now moving on another step with the booster programme for those aged over 65 years living in a long-term residential care facilities and for people aged over 80 years living in the community.”

Aisling Duffy, Operational Site Manager for Cavan CVC said since they commenced rolling out the booster programme on October 4 to residents aged 65 and over living in a residential care facility they had also administered a booster vaccine to a gentleman aged 101 years of age.

"The team are delighted to be part of this next phase of the COVID-19 Vaccination programme. We have received a very positive response from the residents who are happy to be receiving their vaccine booster,” said Ms Duffy.
