Over €20,000 funding for Cavan groups

The news was announced this morning.

Funding of €22,062 has been announced for social enterprise groups across Cavan.

The Social Enterprises Capital Grants Scheme from the Department of Rural and Community Development provides small grants to social enterprises across the country to assist them in carrying out renovations or repairs to their premises.

Minister in the Department, Heather Humphreys today announced funding of €1 million to support 247 Social Enterprises with their capital costs.

Eight groups across Cavan are receiving funding.

Swanlinbar Development Association Ltd is to receive €3,500 for building repairs, including works to renew the flat roof over the community café.

Killinkere Development Association is getting €2,500 to replace kitchen equipment and carry out biodiversity works on grounds.

A new kitchen is to be installed at Happy Day Childcare Services in Belturbet thanks to a grant of €3,000.

€2,031 is going to Virginia Show Centre Ltd for the purchase of new furniture.

The Cottage Market Cavan is receiving its second grant in a week with €2,750 to be spent on the purchase of a marquee and equipment for a community food van.

It received €10,000 last Friday under a separate social enterprise scheme run by the Department of Rural and Community Development.

Meanwhile, St. Kilian’s Heritage Trust is receiving €2,750 for new kitchen equipment and Belturbet Heritage Railway will carry out signage and roof repairs with its €2,031 grant.

Ballyjamesduff Community Council is to set up an online booking system, carry out building work and purchase new kitchen equipment and furniture with its grant of €3,500.

Another seven projects in Co Monaghan are also receiving funding.

The grants will be administered on behalf of the Department by the Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs).

Making the announcement today, Minister Humphreys said:

“As Minister, I’m very conscious that Covid-19 has been challenging for all businesses, including our Social Enterprises. This funding will assist Social Enterprises with specific costs in relation to their facilities.

“In some cases, it will cover the cost of fixing a leaky roof or putting in a new kitchen. Other organisations will use the funding to purchase the likes of new furniture or IT equipment.

“The grants may be small in nature but I know they will greatly assist Social Enterprises in Cavan and Monaghan who have continued to serve their communities through the Pandemic.”
