First phase of Kingscourt regeneration to get underway

Tobin Consulting Engineers were appointed last year to oversee the project.

Tenders have been issued for the next phase of the major redevelopment of Kingscourt.

Cavan County Council has issued a call ahead of site investigation works that are to be carried out.

Just under €788,000 was secured by Cavan County Council in summer 2020 for the major project under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

A design team, Tobin Consulting Engineers, was appointed last year to oversee the project, with contracts signed in November. That company will coordinate the project, which will see the creation of a high-quality public realm space, a new remote working hub and the provision of enhanced wayfinding and off-street car parking.

It’s hoped the major redevelopment will create a focal point for increased activity and footfall in Kingscourt, while providing valuable space for new business in the town core and potentially open up back lands for development. In addition, the scheme will make best use of civic space available and will improve the quality of life of residents and visitors to the town.

Tenders were issued last week for the first phase of works, site investigations.

As part of the contract, works will be carried out to determine the ground conditions on the site for the design of pavement foundations, utility diversions and surface drainage. The successful applicant will also carry out work to determine the existing ground conditions and the location of existing services within the proposed scheme area.

Applications for the scheme must be submitted to Cavan County Council by March 4.

Dún a Rí masterplan

The work ties in with another project being undertaken by the local authority in the local forest park.

Hundreds of submissions were made as part of a consultation day held by the Council on the future of Dún a Rí forest park. It’s hoped a master plan can be drawn up in a bid to secure funding and improve facilities at the popular local amenity.

Work is ongoing to collate the responses received as part of the consultation process.
