Burial to take place of Cootehill woman killed at Dublin home

Mary Bergin (née McCabe), also known as 'Maura' and aged in her 70's, was a native of Augueshland, Cootehill.

The funeral will take place in Dublin, following by burial in her native Cavan, of the late Mary Bergin who was found dead at her city home last week.

Ms Bergin (née McCabe), also known as 'Maura', and from Augueshland, Cootehill will be laid to rest at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Killycramph, following funeral Mass at St Laurence O’Toole Church, Seville Place, North Wall, Dublin on Friday morning.

Aged in her 70s, she was found dead at her house at First Avenue, off Seville Place, in the north inner city around 11.50am on Wednesday, April 13.

Gardaí have since issued a fresh appeal for information relating to the Cootehill woman's death.

Her daughter Moire Bergin (45), also of First Avenue, Seville Place, subsequently appeared charged in connection with the killing before Judge Conal Gibbons at Dublin District Court.

She was remanded in custody to appear again April 21 for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions to be obtained.

The judge also agreed to direct urgent medical, including psychiatric attention, for the defendant while custody. He further noted that fitness to be tried would arise at a later stage.

Ms Bergin is predeceased by her parents, Alex and Bridget, sister Kathleen, brother Seamus and brother-in-law Jim.

She will be deeply missed by her loving husband Liam, her children, her treasured grandchildren and daughter-in-law.

She will be sadly missed by her dear siblings Johnny and wife Mary, Patsy and wife Mary, Jude and wife Patricia, Michael and wife Patricia, Rita, Vera and husband Hugh, Geraldine and husband Billy, Bernard, Sarah and husband Noel, nieces and nephews, a large extended family, a circle of close friends and lifelong neighbours in the Seville Place community where Mary proudly carried out her duties as Sacristan at St. Laurence O’Toole Church and where she will be greatly missed.
