Lakeland Dairies has a number of new developments in the pipeline.

Lakeland plans new developments

Cavan County Council has approved plans for two new silos at the Lakeland Dairies site in Bailieborough.

Further information has been requested on a separate development at the Killeshandra site. The co-op plans to build the 11-metre high silos at its site on the Shercock road in Bailieborough, next to the existing butter factory.

Concrete foundations will be laid to allow for the erection of the silos.

Three reports were submitted by the company as part of the application, a construction management plan, waste management plan and environmental impact assessment report. Seven conditions were attached to the granting of planning permission by Cavan County Council to ensure adequate management of waste from the construction process and to prevent the runoff of liquid contaminants or fuel from the site.

The company also applied for permission for significant development at its site in Killeshandra. It’s planning to demolish a lab building at the facility and replace it with two 20-metre high silos.

However, Cavan County Council has requested further information on the plans for the Church Street site. It has asked for information on the intended use for the silos and what will be stored within them - raw milk or processed milk.

In a letter to Lakeland Dairies, the Council said this information is required to meet requirements set out in legislation as the development would see the site surpass a processing capacity of 50 million litres of milk per annum.

Similar reports, construction and waste management plans and an environmental impact assessment report were also submitted.

Also included in the application was a visual assessment report, which found the installation of the silos would have no impact on sightlines from Church Street in Killeshandra.
