Man charged after driving from checkpoint

Gardaí attached to Bailieborough Garda Station were conducting a checkpoint at Corclare area of Shercock.

Gardaí in the east of the county arrested a man driving a van that failed to stop at a checkpoint and drove off.

The driver subsequently failed the road side breath test for alcohol and arrested for dangerous driving.

The arrest was carried out by gardaí attached to Bailieborough Garda Station who were conducting a checkpoint at Corclare area of Shercock.

“This white van drove at Gardai on the checkpoint and failed to stop,” a garda spokesperson said in a post shared to social media. “The vehicle was then intercepted and the driver failed the road side breath test for alcohol and arrested for dangerous driving, failing to stop and drink driving.”

The van itself has also been detained as the driver had no insurance, NCT or tax.

“This driver has been charged and is before the Courts.”
