Good weekend ahead as rain set to clear

High pressure across Ireland will bring largely dry weather and spells of sunshine this weekend with temperatures in the mid to high teens.

A damp and cloudy start today with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Patchy light rain will become confined to Munster and south Leinster by afternoon, with drier weather and sunny spells developing elsewhere. By evening, it will be dry with spells of sunshine across the country. Quite breezy in moderate to fresh westerly winds. Highest temperatures of 13 degrees in the northwest to 18 degrees in the southeast.

Tonight will be chilly, dry and largely clear. However, it will be cloudier over Ulster and north Connacht with the chance of isolated drizzle patches. A few mist and fog patches will develop as winds ease light westerly or variable. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees generally, but around 7 or 8 degrees in the north and northwest.

Tomorrow, Friday, will be a dry and sunny day over most of the country. However, it will be cloudier for a time in Ulster with the chance of an isolated drizzle patch in the morning. Highest temperatures of 13 degrees in the north to 19 degrees in the south in light to moderate northwest winds.

Largely dry with long clear spells overnight on Friday, though it will be cloudier at times over Ulster. A cool night with lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in a light northerly breeze.

Saturday is expected another dry day with spells of sunshine, though there will be isolated light showers in the north. A rather warm day for much of the country with highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees generally, though it will be cooler in north Ulster in light to moderate northerly winds.

Staying dry with clear spells on Saturday night. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees in a light to moderate northerly breeze.

Sunday is promised mostly dry with sunny spells. However, there is the chance of a few light showers in the north and east. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees, though it will once again be cooler in north Ulster in moderate northeasterly winds.

Becoming slightly cloudier overnight on Sunday with scattered light showers spreading from the north. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees.

A cooler and cloudier day is in store on Monday with well scattered light showers. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees in a light to moderate northerly breeze.

Current indications suggest that the early part of next week will bring sunny spells and a few light showers. Daytime temperatures will generally reach the mid-teens.
