Cavan Bus Station to reopen next month

Cavan’s Bus Station is to reopen next month.

Closed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the continued closure was criticised at a recent meeting of Cavan County Council.

Cllr Madeleine Argue (FG) said waiting passengers were forced to stand in the rain on the street as the station remained closed. She also highlighted the lack of toilet facilities as they are located inside the building.

Following queries from the Celt at the time, Bus Éireann said it expected the station to reopen this summer.

It has now said work in advance of the reopening is currently underway, with a view to opening at some point during July.

“The station has been deep cleaned and internal works are ongoing to ensure that we provide our customers in County Cavan the best facilities possible,” a spokesperson for the company said.

Bus Éireann also said the toilets have been reopened ahead of the station’s full reopening.

“To date the station has been deep cleaned with indoor toilet facilities reinstated. We appreciate the patience and understanding that local representatives and our customers in County Cavan have shown in recent years, and we look forward to welcoming customers on-board Bus Éireann services from Cavan bus station in the future.”

A specific opening date is expected to be announced shortly.
