St Brigid’s Terrace revamp to see 20 new homes built

Plans for a major redevelopment of St Brigid’s Terrace in Cavan Town have been published.

Twenty new homes are planned by Cavan County Council for the well-known, town centre site as part of plans to rejuvenate the area.

Eight homes, two detached houses and numbers 1-6 St Brigid’s Terrace, are to be demolished. In their place, 20 homes will be built.

Cavan County Council says these will be in two separate, three-storey, split-level blocks. 'Block A' will contain six one-bed apartments and six two-bed duplexes. 'Block B' will contain four, two-bed duplexes and four one-bed apartments.

The local authority says, as part of the plans, the existing pedestrian crossing from St Brigid’s Terrace to James Connolly Street will be relocated, along with car parking, to allow for construction.

Planning for the project has been underway for a number of years with the council acquiring buildings and sites in the area over recent years. The council owns 14 properties along the terrace.

Councillors discussed the plans at a meeting last month, ahead of the opening of a public consultation.

That process is now underway. Submissions on the plans can be made to Cavan County Council until July 29.
