Four drunk drivers arrested in 24 hours

All drivers now face court and possible disqualification.

Over a period of 24 hours on Sunday last, June 26, gardaí attacked to the roads unit in Cavan-Monaghan arrested four drunk drivers.

One of the persons was arrested at the scene of a traffic collision.

Another driver arrested had been observed by officers driving “erratically” and when stopped attempted to “flee on foot”.

The third motorist detained for drink driving was observed “driving dangerously”. When stopped it turned out the driver had no licence or insurance either.

The fourth and final driver, a spokesperson for An Garda Siochana said, was a “simple road traffic stop”.

There was also one driver arrested during the same period for drug driving.

The driver had initially been stopped for speeding but failed a roadside drug test.

Last week Cavan Roads Policing Unit arrested two more drug drivers. One of the drug drivers also had the car detained under Section 41 Road Traffic Act for no current NCT.

“All drivers now face court and disqualification,” said the garda spokesperson. “Regardless of how many times we post we continue to detect drivers who risk their lives and the lives of others. Please heed the warnings and think before you drink or drug drive.”
