Killeshandra to get new Public Health Nurse

The news was confirmed by the HSE.

A new public health nurse is to be appointed in Killeshandra next month.

The HSE has confirmed the post, which has been vacant, is to be filled permanently in August.

Local TD Niamh Smyth (FF) says the announcement is “good news”.

“This good news follows on from months of Parliamentary Questions by my office raising this very issue. The concerns were initially raised with me by members of the public living in Killeshandra who were unable to see their public health nurse.

“Parents contacted me on this issue where they weren’t getting the support they were entitled to by a public health nurse with developmental assessment paperwork for their children.”

She received the confirmation that the post is to be filled in a reply to a parliamentary question placed in the Dáil.

Amanda Doyle, acting head of the local primary care service, said the post would be filled “circa August 2022”.

“I have now received confirmation from the HSE that a full time public health nurse will be in place next month in Killeshandra and I can assure my constituents that I will continue to liaise with the HSE on this issue until I see this role up and running locally in Killeshandra,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
