The new drive to fix potholes

A Ballyconnell man will be behind the wheel of a new piece of heavy machinery which promises to provide a longer term solution to potholes.

We have all seen various types of pothole machines come and go over the years, and this week the all new JCB Pothole Pro has arrived in County Louth.

Kevin Buckley from Clowney, Ballyconnell, who works for Louth County Council, is thrilled to have been selected to operate the innovative, high-powered machine, which works by cutting, planing and sweeping the road before filling defects with hot asphalt for a long-lasting result.

“I am delighted to have been selected for this fantastic machine, that will transform both the speed and quality of pothole repair,” Kevin Buckley told the Celt this week.

The multi-tasking machine reduces road restoration times to just minutes, according to Kevin. It reportedly provides a more economical, permanent and sustainable solution, than currently offered by conventional methods. The Pothole Pro planes off the road surface to enable a squared-off hole be filled by a following team.
