Cavan Gardaí to host open day event

Gardaí in Cavan Town are to open the doors of the local station to the public.

The event is part of the celebrations to commemorate the 100th anniversary of An Garda Síochána in the State.

The open day takes place this coming weekend, Saturday, July 23, from 1-4pm, with a Sensory Hour taking place from 12-1pm.

In attendance will be a number of specialist units attached to An Garda Síochána including the Mounted Unit, the Dog Unit, Armed Support, as well as other emergency services to include Fire Brigade members, representatives from the Road Safety Authority and others.

Other stations across the Cavan-Monaghan region have hosted similar type events.

Superintendent Padraic Jones says it is important that the force engages with the public, and that citizens can see beyond the uniform.

“This is part of the centenary commemorations to mark 100th anniversary of the founding of An Garda Síochána. Other stations have had similar events, in Monaghan and in Bailieborough, and now we’re opening our station to the public and looking forward to welcoming people in and showing them what it is we do in our daily work to help protect our community.”
