Local gardaí mark centenary of the force

Events organised locally to mark the centenary of the formation of An Garda Síochána were deemed a success.

Past and present members attached to the Cavan-Monaghan Divisional gathered in Carrickmacross today for a host of talks and a special parade through the town.

The event took place despite the Status Yellow weather warning, and garda spokesperson thanked everyone who braved the heavy rain to show their support.

"Our Centenary Event took place today at the Civic Offices in Carrickmacross. Despite the bad weather we would like to thank everyone who attended - our colleagues from the other First Responders and Emergency Services, our retired members from the GSRMA, the guest speakers, Minister [Heather] Humphreys and elected representatives and members of the public."
