New edition of history journal launched

AGM of Breifne Historical Society held in the Farnham Arms Hotel, Cavan Town.

The latest Cumann Seanchais Bhreifne journal was launched as the local history group held its first AGM since the Covid pandemic disrupted activities.

Those in attended the AGM of Breifne Historical Society held in the Farnham Arms Hotel, Cavan Town witnessed the election of Fiachra Ó Mórdha, as the newly chairperson.

The outgoing chairperson Leslie McKeague’s last duty was to launch the journal of Cumann Seanchais Bhreifne 2022.

This year’s journal edited by Dr Brendan Scott contains a wealth of local historical information. The journal’s nine chapters are compiled by contributors residing in Ireland, England and the USA.

Subjects covered include capters on: Bishop Edward McGennis (1846-1906); Outrages in Leitrim in 1846; The Gaelic League in Virginia; Wills in Killann Parish archive 1870-1915; The destruction of the Public Records Office in 1922 and surviving Co. Cavan records 1821-1911; Sources on Co Cavan Military Archives during the revolutionary period; St Patrick’s Purgatory in the 17th century; Aspects of geology and geography in south Cavan and east Monaghan and Travers Blackley and the Farnham Estate.
