Approval for major Bailieborough Housing Development

Cavan County Council has secured Part 8 approval to proceed with a major 45 unit social housing development at Páirc na Teile, Beckscourt, Bailieborough.

Welcoming the news, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr John Paul Feeley said, “At a time of unprecedented pressure on our housing system, the quality and scale of this development is welcome news for Bailieborough and the surrounding areas. These 45 units will be completed to the latest energy efficiency standards, and I have no doubt they will prove to be happy homes for the families that take up residence there.”

The development comprises of

• Four one-bed, two storeyapartments

• Six two-bed, semi-detached, single storey dwellings

• Twenty-two semi-detached, two-bed, two storey dwellings

• Four three-bed, semi-detached, single storeydwellings

• Six three-bed, semi-detached, two storey dwellings

• Two four-bed, semi-detached,single storey dwellings; and

• One five-bed, detached, two storey dwelling

The development also includes boundary treatments, public play area, landscaping, car parking spaces, service road, and wastewater treatment plant. Part 8 approval for the development was secured by a vote of the Bailieborough-Cootehill Municipal District councillors at their October meeting.

The current construction cost estimate is in the region of €10 million. Construction is due to commence in the second quarter of 2023 and it is anticipated that 20 units will be delivered during 2024 with the remaining 25 units delivered in 2025.

Chief Executive of Cavan County Council Mr Tommy Ryan hailed the efforts of the Council’s Housing Construction team in bringing the project to this advanced stage.

“This is a significant project, a large-scale housing development with a variety of different home types and specifications, all to be delivered to a high standard. I want to acknowledge the efforts of our Housing Construction team, who are working tirelessly to ensure Cavan County Council meets its commitments under the Government’s ambitious ‘Housing for All’ plan. I want to also acknowledge our elected members in the Municipal District for their vision in supporting this most worthy development.”
