Investigations into Monaghan deaths continue

Gardaí continue to investigate the fatal road traffic collision on Castleblayney to Dundalk Road, and also the discovery of a man's body in a house in Broomfield this morning.

The body of the male pedestrian, aged in his late 30s has been removed from the scene to the mortuary in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where the post mortem is due to take place tomorrow morning Friday, December, 2 and is being conducted by Dr. Margot Bolster, Office of the State Pathologist.

The pedestrian was killed at Ballynacarry Bridge on the N53.

The road has now reopened as the technical examination of the scene has concluded.

Gardaí in Carrickmacross are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who were travelling in the vicinity of the N53, Castleblayney to Dundalk Road this morning and who have may camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to Gardaí.

Post mortem

Meanwhile RTÉ report that Gardaí are treating the pedestrian's death as linked to that of a man at a residential premises at Knockreagh Lower, Broomfield this morning. However, the gardaí continue to issue separate updates for the two incidents.

The body of the man, aged 60 years, has been removed from the scene to the mortuary in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where a post mortem is due to take place tomorrow morning Friday 2nd December, 2022 and is being conducted by Dr. Linda Mulligan, Office of the State Pathologist. The results of the post mortem will determine the course of the investigation.

The house remains a crime scene and the examination of the scene continues by the Garda Technical Bureau.
