New Oncology Unit for Cavan General

Funding will progress project to detailed design and planning stage.

The provision of a new Oncology Unit at Cavan General Hospital has been included in the HSE’s Capital Plan for 2023.

In the Department of Health’s capital development programme this year funding will be provided to progress the detailed design of this new accommodation and move the project to planning stage.

It follows confirmation last October by Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly.

Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith, who had raised the matter through Parliamentary Questions and in meetings with Minister Donnelly, welcomed the news.

“This is a welcome development and the delivery of oncology services at Cavan General Hospital is an extremely important service for large numbers of patients in Cavan/Monaghan and neighbouring areas. The present inadequate accommodation puts additional pressure on staff who work extremely hard in outdated accommodation,” stated Deputy Brendan Smith.
