Cavan's latest adventure tourism offering officially opened

Barnagrow Lake Amenity has been hailed as "a perfect location for adventure tourism" by Minister Heather Humphreys.

The minister was speaking as she officially launched the newly enhanced beauty spot last Friday.

Funding of over €17,500 under the Outdoor Recreation and Infrastructure Scheme helped to upgrade the carpark, provide two accessible picnic benches, and a changing area for swimmers and kayakers.

The minister said the improvements would will benefit "so many local people and indeed tourists".

"What you’ve done really is turn Lough Barnagrow into a perfect location for adventure tourism – a place for families and friends to come together and enjoy our great outdoor amenities."

Cathaoirleach of County Council, Cllr John Paul Feeley; Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District, Cllr Aiden Fitzpatrick and Deputy Niamh Smyth and Senator Joe O'Reilly were amongst the guests at the sun-drenched official opening of Barnagrow Lake Amenity.

"I want to congratulate the local community and Cavan County Council for their terrific work in bringing this wonderful project to completion.

"I really believe that by investing in our outdoor amenities – our rivers, our lakes, our walkways and cycleways – we can provide a real economic and social boost to rural Ireland."
