Person of Year winners revealed

More than 5,200 votes were cast for the 2009 Anglo-Celt/Rehab Person of the Year awards and this week we can reveal the top 10 nominees all of whom will receive an award at a ceremony in the Hotel Kilmore on Thursday, March 25. The winners (in alphabetical order) are: Garda David Conlon, Cavan, for work as a community garda; Martin Donohoe, Cavan, for work with CCÉ, Nyah and input in bringing the 2010 All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil to Cavan; The late Andrew Grene, who died in the Haiti earthquake, for work in the UN in some of the most dangerous and volatile countries; Ann Hanley, Resource House Committee, Bailieboro; Frank MacManus, Cavan, for his work with St. Vincent de Paul; Susan McVitty, Ballyconnell, for her community work; Boxer Andrew Murray, Cavan, for work with young boxers; Garda Peter O'Sullivan, Bailieboro, for work as a community garda; Dominic Sheenan, Kingscourt for work with Kingscourt Harps AFC; Ciaran Weir, Corlismore, for hospice fundraising through the Gallant 15K Challenge. All the winners will receive awards for voluntary work and dedication within their communities. The overall Cavan Person of the Year (one of the above) will be announced on the night. Joe Finnegan of Northern Sound will be the MC and Cavan businessman and dragon Sean Gallagher is the guest of honour. He will also receive an achievement award.
