Armed raiders leave town like warzone

Gardai are appealing for witnesses after armed robbers held up the Bank of Ireland in Kingscourt in broad daylight last week. Shortly before 5pm on Friday, May 11, a number of armed men entered a bank on Main St. Kingscourt and held up staff before making off with a substantial sum of cash. At least six men were involved in the raid and set fire to a number of cars parked outside the bank, apparently as a diversionary tactic, during the incident. Dramatic footage of the aftermath of the raid can be viewed here:

The men initially made off in a waiting car which was set alight a short distance away and escaped in a second car in the direction of Bailieboro. There was no shots fired during the incident and no reported injures. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing. Gardai are appealing to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity today, or in recent days, in the vicinity of Main St. Kingscourt to contact them. Anyone with information is asked to contact Bailieboro Garda Station 042-9694570, or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
