Chemical-free fracking not investigated by university report
The scientist behind the fracking report commissioned by the EPA has admitted that he didn't explore the prospect of chemical-free fracking. Since last July Tamboran has claimed that the Australian-based company will use chemical-free frack fluid to extract gas from its licensing option areas. In compiling the report, with a modest budget of just €6,000, Dr Dave Healy, senior lecturer in geomechanics with the University of Aberdeen was tasked with investigating "the possibility of fracking without the use of chemicals". When it was put to Dr Healy that he had not investigated this he responded: "Yes there was very little information available on that. I found it difficult to comment in any serious way on that. I gather that Tamboran are thinking of that in Ireland - of going with a fluid that lacks chemicals - obviously the risks from any pollution, if you like, from the chemicals is thereby removed with that, so that would obviously be a more greener way forward.
