Our turf 'n' our surf
St Mogue's College has a great history of Gaelic football - past students include the manager of Cavan Ladies football, Adrian McGovern and its captain, Aisling Doonan, whom we welcomed back for a day's visit in September before the big game to ease the pressure off them. And the boys aren't far behind them with many victories in recent years, especially at U16 level and since teaming up with St Bricin's, Belturbet. The U16 boys have glided their way through their matches but are training up hard to beat Virginia in the coming weeks in the final, which will be played on the 3G pitch in Breffni Park. They are hoping to finish off with a star performance. The seniors also did well to beat the Royal College by three points and Bailieborough Community College by 14 points. The senior boys' soccer team are also ending their games with high scores, beating the Royal College by six goals and Breffni College by three goals. The U16s are getting pumped up to beat the Royal College as we go to print. And surf... On the very beaches that hosted the 2011 Euro Surf Championships, St Mogue's TY class hit the waves just before the international competitors arrived last September. Most of the class had no previous experience and yet within three sessions most of us managed to get upright on the full size boards and stay there for at least a minute! The thrill of the surf even on a rainy day transports you thousands of miles from the classroom, even if you are still in Bundoran! A peak view... During the Summer one teacher and six students from St Mogue's set their sights on climbing the highest peak on Kilimanjaro in seven days and succeeded in record time. They say "it was tough, but we enjoyed every minute of it". St Mogue's College students came into The Anglo-Celt offices last Friday to lay out their page for our 'My School' competition. For more articles and pictures from the school, see this week's Anglo-Celt.
