Road incidents: one dead, several injured

Gardai in Granard are investigating a fatal road accident, which occurred on the R396 between Abbeylara and Coole, Co. Longford at approximately 3am on Monday morning. Patrick Masterson (40), Robinstown, Castlepollard, was fatally injured when the car he was driving was in collision with a ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for a Garda technical examination and has since re-opened. Gardai are appealing for any member of the public that may have travelled this road between 3am and 3.30am, to contact the Gardai at Granard on 043-87660.

Yesterday morning (Tuesday) a female pedestrian was rushed to Cavan General Hospital following a hit-and-run accident on Farnham Street, in Cavan town. The area was sealed off and Gardai are carrying out an investigation.

A teenage girl was seriously ill in hospital having being injured in a two car crash on the Cavan Road just outside Bailieboro on Friday evening. The accident happened at about 6.30pm and the girl was taken to Cavan General Hospital but later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

On Thursday morning last at approximately 9am a motor cyclist and the driver of a car were removed to Cavan General Hospital following a collision between the vehicles on the Cavan By-pass. The accident occurred at Drumahurk, Butlersbridge. Their injuries are not life threatening.

There was a two car collision on the Ballinagh Road, Cavan town, at 11am on Friday last and an hour later there was a three-car collision on Farnham Street, Cavan. No one was injured in either accident. Later that afternoon at 2.30pm, there was a minor collision on Farnham Street between two cars and again no one was injured.
