Crossdoney lad wins 50000 on scratchcard

A 25-year-old shop assistant from Crossdoney had a stroke of luck this week when a €2 debt turned into a €50,000 win on a scratch card.

Brothers Damien (23) and Declan (25) McManus both work in the Mace shop on the Dublin Road in Killeshandra.

Speaking today, Damien McManus shared the fantastic story:

“Declan owed me €2 so I got it off him and bought a National Lottery Scratch Card.  I won a fiver on that Scratch card, so I thought I’d buy another.  I bought the All Cash Platinum Scratch Card and scratched it right away, there in the shop - I couldn’t believe it when I saw I’d won the top prize of €50,000!”

Brother Declan, who was working when the excitement was happening, continued: “I was in the office and heard Damien shouting ‘Come here! Come here!’  I thought the shop was being robbed!”

The delighted young Damien McManus has big plans for his winnings: “I’ve never been out of the country before, so I’m going to go on my first foreign holiday.  I’m also going to buy a new car.  And I’d love to go to Old Trafford when the new season starts to see Man U play!” he said.

“I guess I’ll have to look after Declan as well – he’ll get his €2 back at least!!” smiled lucky Damien.
