Gardai investigating series of burglaries

Gardai in Cavan are investigating a series of burglaries which occurred in the local area over the past week.

Four persons have appeared before courts following their arrest after an alleged burglary incident in the Clonosey area near Belturbet on Saturday last, May 12.

The four, two aged 21, a 32 year old and a juvenile were caught and arrested shortly after 9pm, and following the incident Gardai took to social media to thank “the huge number of public volunteers” who assisted them. “The local Text Alert contributed to this success. Your support is appreciated.”

Separately, gardai are seeking assistance and information regarding a burglary at a house on College Street which occurred between the hours of 10pm and 3am on May 3-4 last, during which electrical items were stolen.

A strimmer was meanwhile taken following a break-in at a shed in the Mountnugent area between May 1-10, and five rolls of 100 metre long sheep wire was taken from a site in Gortnaquil near Blacklion on May 7 last.

Finally, gardai are seeking assistance after a bike was taken from outside a property near Milltown, Belturbet on May 6, and two others were stolen from the canal bank at Ballyconnell over the weekend.

Gardai have reminded locals to ensure that their possessions including outdoor tools are locked away securely and out of sight.
