Man appears before court on drugs charges

A 45-year-old man appeared before Virginia District Court this afternoon charged in connection with the seizure of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €70,000.

Vitalijus Kundrotas from 4 Brambley Grove, Muckno Street, Castleblayney appeared before Judge Denis McLoughlin at Virginia District Court charged with possession, and possession for sale or supply.

He was remanded to Cloverhill Prison, to appear again at Cloverhill District Coutr on Friday, July 27. 

Following ongoing joint investigations targeting drug importations, authorities carried out a search in the Castleblaney area on Monday, July 23. The joint intelligence led operation was conducted by the Revenue’s Customs Service from the Border-Midlands-West Region, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, the Regional Support Unit and Gardai from the Cavan/Monaghan Drugs Unit.
Gardai entered a residence in the north Monaghan town on foot of a search warrant, assisted by Customs units where they seized a package containing approximately 3.5 kilogrammes of herbal cannabis. The estimated value of the drugs is pending analysis.
