Ali KOs Cavan electricity

Over 3,000 ESB customers across Cavan are without power as Storm Ali continues to move across the country this morning.

The ESB Networks website confirmed outages in Cavan Town, Crossdoney, Arva, Finnea, Cloverhill, Ballyconnell, Mullagh and Kingscourt. Crews have established power on some of the areas, but for others the disruption will continue until between 12:30 and 1:00pm.

The power outages are mainly down to fallen trees damaging power lines in the high winds.

ESB repair crews have been mobilised and are working to restore power to customers over the course of today.

According to Met Eireann, Storm Ali will track close to the west and north west until late this afternoon.

Winds will have an average speed of 65 to 80kms per hour with some gusts approaching 110/120km/h for a time in some areas.

Winds will be strongest along Atlantic coasts at first and later in the morning extending further east.

As a result of Storm Helene, there were heavy rainfalls over the entire county on Monday evening

with reports of some localised spot flooding.

As an ex Tropical Storm, it had the unusual effect of temperatures in the high teens.

Motorists have been urged to take care on the roads, avoid unnecessary journeys and be aware of the hazards of debris on the roads.
