Callum knocks out electricity for 235 homes

Cavan escaped the worst of Storm Callum as only a few areas have been affected by power outages as a result of the storm.

The Status Orange weather warning issued for 12 coastal counties by Met Éireann and the Yellow alert for Cavan did not result in significant damage.

Two faults in Ballyconnell have resulted in 235 homes being left without electricity. ESB say they should have connections restored by six o'clock this evening at the latest.

Carrickmacross was heavier hit, with 915 homes losing connection to the grid. Engineers are working on that outage.

A statement from the Infrastructure company said: “We apologise for the loss of supply. We are currently working to repair a fault affecting your premises and will restore power as quickly as possible.

Storm Callum's blew South to southeast winds gusting to between 90 and 110 km/h with spells of heavy rain will accompany the winds throughout last night.
