Town bids farewell to Post Office service

Sean McMahon

It was the end of an era in Killeshandra on Wednesday, October 31, as the local Post Office shut its doors for the final time.

Locals crowded into the Post Office all day long to wish the Post Mistress Lil Fleming and Post Office Clerk Frances Maguire all the best, and to thank them for their outstanding service over the years.

Lil offered tea or coffee and biscuits to everyone who called, as an appreciation “of their loyalty to us as well.

“We had great customers here and the fun and banter was always great,” she said.

Meanwhile the campaign to have a Post Office Service in Killeshandra is set to continue, with lobbying of Dáil Deputies as well as communications with An Post to be stepped up in the coming weeks.

The Killeshandra Post Office Retention Committee felt that their submission to have the facility relocated in the town was a viable proposition.

All Post Office business now transfers to Carrigallen.
