Gardaí in €250K drug bust

The haul of drugs seized on display at Cavan Garda Station.

Over a quarter of a million euros worth of illegal drugs were seized in Kilnaleck on Friday night as gardaí busted a major drug den. The raid on a terraced house in the town resulted in the seizure of suspected Cocaine, MDMA and Cannabis, with an estimated street value of over €250,000.
Gardaí from Kilnaleck and Cavan, supported by members of the Divisional Drugs Unit under the direction of Superintendent Jimmy Coen, conducted a search at a property Kilnaleck, where the suspected drugs were discovered. It is understood that the drugs seized were packaged and appeared to be ready to be moved on.
The seized substances will be subjected to analysis and a file will be sent to the DPP in this matter for directions.
In further searches on Saturday, a number of vehicles were also seized, as well as documents.
Chief Superintendent of the Cavan Monaghan Garda Division John O’Reilly congratulated the officers concerned. He told the Celt: “This was a significant drug seizure and is part of ongoing targeted operations in relation to the sale and supply of drugs.”
He said the investigation is ongoing and gardaí will also endeavour to ascertain what market the drugs were destined for. “This is a concerning development in any rural area,”  said the local chief of police.
A female in her late 20s/early 30s was arrested as part of the investigation but released on station bail. It's understood that she is charged with possessing ammunition and is due to appear at Cavan District Court today (Thursday).
Supertintendent Jimmy Coen, meanwhile, said that two other persons were arrested at Dublin Airport on Monday morning and were detained at Cavan Garda Station. Gardaí at Cavan are liaising with Interpol in establishing the identities of all concerned and the exact scale of the operation.
Meanwhile, a male who had been arrested after a traffic stop on Friday evening, appeared at a special sitting of Cavan District Court on Sunday, charged with fraud offences.
