Bailieborough Garda Stations to be finished by 2021

Bailieborough Garda Station will be open for operation by Summer 2021 the December meeting of Cavan Joint Policing Committee heard.

Chief Superintendent John O'Reilly told the meeting that last Thursday the final agreement on the new station at Bailieboro was agreed.

Senator Joe O'Reilly said the news was to be welcomed as it “had been a long time coming”, these sentiments were echoed by Cllr Sara O'Reilly. Cllr Paddy Md Donald said while it was to be welcomed the location of the build was not the best site option, Chief Superintendent O'Reilly said he did not disagree with that sentiment.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) will oversee the conversion of the former National Irish Bank building into the new Garda station.

The existing building, which is a protected structure, will be refurbished, with a new four storey extension built to the rear to accommodate the new District Headquarters.

The former National Irish Bank in the town was purchased from solicitor Joanne Kangley. The programme of replacement and refurbishment of Garda accommodation is progressed by the Garda authorities and the OPW.
