16 jobs to go at Cavan's Liberty Insurance

A total of 16 jobs are to be cut at Cavan's Liberty Insurance operation after the company moved to outsource the work of its 'Finance' department to India.

The move has hugely frustrated members of the local workforce at the Killygarry headquartered firm, not least because those about to lose their jobs are now being forced to train-up their replacements before collecting their redundancy.

The majority of the staff being laid-off have been with the company for the best part of two decades, and during the days when the business was run by former billionaire Sean Quinn and his family.

The latest job losses, The Anglo-Celt understands, will affect Finance and Credit Control departments, and follows a handful of other employees let go towards the end of last year, just before Christmas.

Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fail TD Brendan Smith expressed his disappointment at the job losses, saying that commitments given in 2016 by Senior Management that “all employment in Cavan would be protected” has clearly “not being honoured”.

He said: “If there is a need to reduce employee numbers in a particular Division could Liberty Insurance not ensure that jobs in other Divisions could be provided in Cavan. Senior Management should explain what has changed to bring about this much regretted reduction in employment.”
