Council appoint Virginia bypass consultants

Cavan County Council, under the aegis of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), has appointed JB Barry Transportation Ltd as technical advisors in progressing the development of the N3 Virginia Bypass Scheme.
JB Barry Transportation Ltd will provide all engineering, environmental, economic and appraisal services required to deliver the project through the planning and design phases.
The development comes more than six months after councillors were left devastated by news that all previously completed groundwork was considered invalid on a key development for the region as contained in the government's €116 billion expenditure vision, Project Ireland 2040.
The bypass was one of a number of major national road schemes identified in the National Development Plan, with €600,000 previously allocated.
The procurement of a multi-disciplinary consultancy team is very much seen as an attempt to get the project back on track.
The reactivated scheme, developed as a major scheme in accordance with the TII project management guidelines, will be rolled-out in seven separate phases of development.
It will also take into account the substantial increase in traffic volumes along the M3/N3.
