Pylon protestors to host pre-election meeting

A public meeting to highlight concerns of the group opposed to the North-South Interconnector will take place on Wednesday, January 29. The North East Pylon Pressure Campaign NEPPC will hold the pre-election public meeting in the Headfort Arms hotel at 8.30pm.

NEPPC spokesperson Padraig O’Reilly expects a large attendance at the meeting: “It remains an issue of huge contention and concern for the many communities across the North-East that could be blighted by a line of 400 pylons. Equally, it remains an issue of huge solidarity at landowner and community level in terms of rejection of this plan in favour of an undergrounding alternative.”
The lobby group continue to oppose the progress of the project: “The planning Approval granted in 2016 did not include any application or approval for access to lands. This situation remains unchanged. The Approval also contained nine strict conditions, many of which require local Authority agreement. ESB and Eirgrid are blatantly attempting to get our Local Authorities to vary these Conditions, but this is being challenged by NEPPC,” Mr O’Reilly said.
The NEPPC has invited all election candidates in Meath East, West and Cavan-Monaghan constituencies to attend and to outline party positions.
