Bumper weekend of club championship action

Bailieborough and Killinkere got the ball rolling on a bumper weekend of club championship acting last night (Thursday), with the Shamrocks coming through by 1-8 to 0-9 after a slow-burner of an Intermediate Championship clash.
Killinkere were the better side in the first half, at the end of which they led by 0-6 to 0-2, but a succession of frees from Brendan Argue and a scrappy goal from Senan Reilly helped the east Cavan side, who were powered on by Argue, Sean Cooney, Aidan Reilly and Calvin Daly, to victory.
Next up is the senior meeting of Killygarry and Crosserlough this evening (throw-in, 8pm, Kingspan Breffni Park), with champions Cavan Gaels making their first foray of the season tomorrow when they meet a youthful Cuchulainns side in Virginia.
Local rivals Gowna and Lacken face off in Mullahoran in an encounter which could well produce fireworks as the sides vie to advance to the next round.
Meanwhile, the Cavan senior ladies side host Monaghan in the first round of All-Ireland qualifiers tomorrow (Saturday) at 5.15pm in Kingspan Breffni Park. The game will be televised live on TG4.
