BREAKING: Cavan players have learned their fate at Croke Park hearing

Paul Fitzpatrick

The Cavan senior football team have been handed a massive boost this evening with the news that captain Dara McVeety and defender Conor Moynagh have had the red cards they received against Down after the match last Saturday rescinded.

Cavan appealed the proposed one-match suspensions handed out to Moynagh and McVeety - who were cited for "contributing to a melee" - and tonight, the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) have cleared both players, meaning they are free to line out against Tyrone in the round 3 qualifier this Saturday evening at Brewster Park.

The CHC ruled that "the infraction was not proven". The Anglo-Celt understands that Cavan appealed on the basis of innacuracies in the referee's report.

More to follow.
