Historical treasures at Victor Mee Auction Rooms in Belturbet

Victor Mee"s Auction Rooms, Cloverhill, Belturbet will hold their third annual political memorabilia and book auction on Sunday, May 17, and Monday, May 18, - the only such auction outside Dublin. The two-day event is 'an opportunity to see some of our history and items of national importance, right here in County Cavan', according to the auctioneers. Who knows what treasures history enthusiasts might uncover. Comprising a collection of memorabilia of local and national interest, items on show include: War of Independence and 1916 medals, attributed to a Cumann na mBan member; War of Independence Medal, attributed, with gold Cumann na mBan badge; War of Independence medals, with passport, driver"s licence and memorial card attributed. Drumboe Martyrs Poster and acknowledgement letters from two of their mothers and memorial cards; rare 1st North Cavan UVF armband; UVF lapel badge; rare Royal Irish Constabulary pillbox hat; pair of Royal Irish Constabulary lapel badges. A group of six medals; and memorabilia spanning the two world wars to Petty Officer H. Robinson of the Royal Navy, who also serviced at the RN School of Chemical Warfare Lt. Colonel George Thomas Pearsonn, Colonel in Charges of Ceremonies, his form and order of the service that is to be performed and of the ceremonies that are to be observed in the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary, with penciled-in timetables on front inner cover and comments throughout. There are also books of historical interest, a signed photograph of Charles J Haughey and signed letter on Abbeyville notepaper; The Name of the Hare by Seamus Heaney, signed at bottom of page; programme for reading Gate Theatre 1989; art of Seamus Heaney; History of the Siege of Londonderry 1689 by Cecil D Milligan, 1951 and another booklet of the same subject.
