GAA Club Notes

Crosserlough Crosserlough held their La Na Club 125 celebrations on Saturday last in Dr Plunkett Park Kilnaleck with a huge attendance despite the poor weather conditions. The event was organised to celebrate the 125 anniversary of the GAA and was rescheduled due to the unexpected death of Tom Dowd one of the stalwarts of the GAA at club, county and All Ireland level. All Juvenile teams paraded from the town of Kilnaleck to the GAA Centre led by county minor player Paul McEvoy who carried the 125 flag. The field was sectioned to enable each group to participate in fun games and even had a chance to get their own back on the managers. The Committee would like to thank the Garda for their escort to the pitch and for all the people who helped make the day a huge sucess. - Eamon Brady Drumalee Lotto held on the 4/6/09 in Thomas Ashe. Kingscourt open their campaign on Sunday 14th with a match against Lacken in Virginia at 2pm. For the first time in a few years, Kingscourt approach the championship with some confidence and the hard work of the last few months has paid dividend as the Seniors are primed for league promotion. However, everything boils down to the championship so there will be no letting up on the commitment of the players. So come on, make the short trip to Virginia and cheer the side on and show your support. Juvenile: The 14"s met Castlerahan in the League Shield last Saturday evening. Unfortunately, missing some key players it was always going to be difficult and Castlerahan were just too strong on the day. Next up is the U-14 Regional seven a side Summer Blitzes.  Kingscourt have been drawn in the same group as Knockbride, Shercock & Bailieboro.  On Thursday 18th June, we will host these clubs in the first round of matches from 7pm - 9pm.  The Girls U-12"s made it two wins from two with a great 1-7 to 0-3 victory away to Shercock last Sunday. Another great team performance and the side is coming on very well. Next Sunday they face Cuchullains at home at 6pm The U-10"s headed North at the weekend to compete in the annual Newry Blitz.  On a miserable, wet day the side played four matches and having lost the first game, won the next two games without conceding a score.  That meant they had to beat host club, Newry Shamrocks, in their final game.  A super performance from the side saw the game go right to the wire before they were defeated by a solitary point.  It was a great day for all, despite the poor weather and the performance of the whole team should see more good days for this side in the future.  The U-8"s continue training at 5.30pm on Wednesday evenings. Lotto: Last week"s lotto numbers were 01,02, 08 & 10, with the bonus being 11. There were no jackpot winners and their was six Match 3 winning €35 each. Next week"s draw takes place in Freemans on Sunday 14th and the jackpot will be €8,000 (€13,000 inc. bonus). - Niall Reilly Killygarry LOTTO:Last Draw for E11,600    No Winner. Dean played at all underage levels for the club and was full forward on the team which contested last years under 21 semi final and he also played on the reserve team. He was extremely courteous, popular and friendly young man who endeared himself to everyone that knew him through his all too short life, something that was very much in evidence by the enormous numbers of people who called to the McDonald family home in Clonosey where Dean spent his final days and also at the funeral mass in Killygarry. He had a fanatical interest in practically all sport and had accumulated a wealth of sporting knowledge over the years. His friendships made through football were not confined to 'The Rories' as was very much evident by the number of volunteers from our neighbouring clubs who took part in the search for Dean in Ballyconnell. A minute silence was observed for him before the Cavan V Fermanagh game in Breffni Park, a result which would have given him enormous satisfaction. Guards of honour were provided by his former classmates of Gormanstown College, Dundalk I.T., Belturbet G F C and all his friends as his remains left the house and also at Killygarry Church. Dean will be greatly missed by all at he club but of course it is his family who will miss him most and sympathy is extended to his father Michael , Goretti and Patsy McDonald and family and all his relatives and friends. Seniors: The Senior team start their championship campaign on Sunday next against West Cavan Gaels who are an amalgamation of Shannon Gaels, Kildallon, Templeport and Corlough. The game is in Swanlinbar and has a 2pm start. Under 14: The under 14 team qualified for the shield final when they defeated Gowna last week. They play the final against Dernacrieve Gaels in Rory O"Moore Park on Thursday 11th at 5.30 pm. U16: The u16 9aside semi-final against Lurgan will be played on the 22nd of June. - Julie Anne Sheridan Bailieborough Under 14s: Having already qualified for the National Feile finals in Kildare in July, the under 14s have reached the county final following a good win over Ramor last week. The final is fixed for Tuesday evening in Kingspan Breffni Park against Crosserlough who will be tough opposition. Whatever the result this team has done the town proud so far this season. They have worked really hard in training since early February and are well worth their place in the final. With an eye on their trip to Feile the under 14s will be engaged in a number of fund raisers over the next few weeks including a Table quiz in Fox"s on the 26th June. Under 10s: The under 10s made their annual appearance in the Newry Blitz on Saturday last. Despite being a little under strength they gave a good account of themselves and won 2 matches in their group. This tournament is one of the largest of its type in the country and it is great experience for children to compete against clubs like Na Fianna from Dublin and some of the top clubs in Ulster. Seniors: The senior team took their 100% record to Muintirconnacht on Sunday last for what seemed like a routine pre championship run out. The reality proved to be quite different as the locals, on their home pitch, played with great determination and had Bailieborough on the back foot for most of the first half. They led by 7 points to 3 at half time. The Shamrocks shook off their lethargy during the break and Damien O Reilly scored a well taken goal straight from the kick off. This goal along with a second, punched effort from Paddy Bird was enough to see them gain a share of the points and maintain their unbeaten record. They now must step up a gear for their Intermediate Championship clash with Drung in Cootehill on next Saturday evening. Juniors: The Juniors took on table toppers Lavey in Division 5 of the league on Sunday evening. This proved to be a very entertaining game with a lot of skilful play by both teams. The Shamrocks withstood a late rally from Lavey to run out deserved winners by 1-10 to 8 points, the goal a well taken effort by Paul O Reilly. - Oliver Tierney Denn Blotto Draw: The Blotto Draw took place in The Carraig Springs on Monday night 1st June. The winning numbers were 7,9,22,29 There was no jackpot winner. The weekly winners were Brian Conaty, Paula Reilly Lavey, Laura Donohoe Artane, Kieran Brady Banaho Road, Gerry & Margaret Donohoe Denmore.
