Dubs come to town for opening

Paul Fitzpatrick paul@anglocelt.ie Cavan senior footballers will face reigning Leinster champions Dublin on Bank Holiday Monday, May 3, in the official opening of the new 3G pitch at Breffni Park, The Anglo-Celt can confirm. And GAA President Christy Cooney will be in attendance to join in the festivities. The new facility, which cost over 1 million euro and is rated as the best of it's kind in this country, has been in use since January but will be officially opened with the visit of Pat Gilroy's Dubs in a match which is sure to whet the appetite of local football fans. Along with the senior football challenge match, there will also be an under 17 Development Squad match between Cavan and Dublin, while the new One Wall handball court at the back of the stand will be officially opened with a series of exhibitions involving some of the top handballers in the country. There will also be a number of rounders and scor exhibitions as part of an event which is aimed at families and all local GAA supporters in general, according to county board PRO Declan Woods. "It should be a great day," Woods told The Anglo-Celt. "There is something there for everyone and we would encourage patrons to arrive early and savour the atmosphere and events." Activitis will begin at 12.30pm and lead up to the main event, which throws in at 3.30pm. Full details and clar for the day will be published in next week's Anglo-Celt.
