Cavan-Monaghan says YES in referendum

The Childrens Referendum has been passed in the constituency of Cavan and Monaghan with a yes vote of 57.6% and a no of 42.4% A dismal voter turnout, the third lowest in Irish referendum history was reflected locally with only 48.8% or 47,689, less than half of the 97,803 strong electorate casting their ballot. Interestingly, a number of votes in the Cavan/Monaghan and some in the Roscommon/Sth Leitrim boxes were found to be spoiled with the slogan "Free Sean Quinn". In total, the number of spoiled votes found in ballot boxes in the Cavan-Monaghan constituency ammounted to 0.6% of the overall, or 287. Meanwhile, Donegal South West declared a no vote. Taoiseach Enda Kenny welcomed the passing of the children's referendum nationally, which was passed by a vote of 57.4 to 42.6%. SEE THIS WEEK'S FOR FULL COVERAGE
