Gilson Gathering

What: All very welcome to the Gilson Gathering. As part of the Laurence Gilson Summer School, the organisers have laid on an afternoon of chat, fun, entertainment and talks for anyone whose name is - or was - Gilsenan or Gilson (or any variation). Exhibition of photos from the old school, talks and workshops on Gilsenan family history and a tour of places of local interest. Admission free. Cancer fund committee

A Day For Mary
Where: Cavan Town
When: Sunday, May 12
What: Fundraising event for a young Blacklion girl, Mary Philbin. Funds raised will help her to continue her cancer treatment in the USA. There is no treatment available for Mary’s cancer here in Ireland and she had to travel to north Carolina to get the necessary medical intervention. The fundraising event will include a 10K walk/run from Cavan Institute at 2pm and a social that evening at Hotel Kilmore at 8pm.

Family Friendly 3.5k Orienteering Walk-
Where: St Michael’s Hall Cootehill.
When: Sunday May 12, starts 2-3pm
What: Orienteering is a fun outdoor activity for all the family, using a map and clues to locate hidden checkpoints. Start any time between 2-3pm, just come along pick up your map and take off along the well laid out route, which takes you into the Beautiful Bellamont Forest Estate. Part of the Cavan Walking Festival.

Darkness into Light
Where: Cavan town
When: Saturday, May 11
What: A 5km charity walk in aid of Pieta House Centre for the Prevention of Suicide and Self-Harm. Walk begins at 4am at the Orchard Bar Carpark, Drumalee. The theme is ‘Darkness into Light’ so the walk begins before dawn and is timed to finish as the sun comes up which is a beautifully symbolic experience. Alzheimers tea day
