Palls of smoke can be seen after a blaze took hold at Railway Road, Cavan Town, on Wednesday.

No complaint made about ‘nuisance’ fire

Gardai in Cavan Town say they have not received a formal complaint about a fire that broke out near the scouts centre on Wednesday.
Just before 8pm on Wednesday (September 21), palls of smoke billowed above the town, coming from Railway Road, and the Fire Service was alerted by a passer-by.
Flames could seen from the busy road at the site of the recently-demolished prefabs along the Kinnypottle.
It is thought that a ‘nuisance element’ started the fire by lighting the remains of the pre-fabs that had been lying in a skip, awaiting removal.
‘Anti-social behaviour’ is thought to be the cause.
Two fire engines arrived on the scene, along with a Garda unit, just before 8pm and the fire was out and the area secured by 9pm. No-one was injured during the incident.
